How do I obtain a copy of my immigration file?
Answer:
To obtain a copy of your immigration file, in most cases you will use Form I-639. You will either mail it to USCIS or Customs and Border Protection (CBP). Send it to CBP if the immigration issue (detained/refused entry) occurred at a border or airport.
If the incident was related to a deportation or removal proceedings there are different procedures to obtain this information.
Important: Be prepared to wait. It can take anywhere from 2 to 18 months to receive your records.
