What the 3 Year TN Visa Ruling Means to You

On October 16, 2008, a very important ruling was passed that is very beneficial to Canadians who want to work in the U.S. and for Mexicans who want to work in the U.S.

USCIS approved the ruling to extend the TN Visa status from one year to three years!!!

What does this mean to you? It means that you can now go to the border, submit your TN Visa Application and in the TN Visa Employer letter you can request a 3 year TN Status. If your application is correctly done and valid then you will be granted a 3 year TN Visa. In the past you could only request a one-year TN Status.

When this ruling was passed, there was a lot of confusion since the CBP (Customs Border Protection) Agents were not told by their superiors what they should do when Canadians start applying for their TN Visa with a 3 year request. This has been cleared up and now they have been told.
